About Eastern Province

NPO number:

Cheshire Homes Eastern Province Branch was founded in the late sixties by a small group of local people interested in the work of the late Leonard Cheshire.

By 1975 the first home in Port Elizabeth, Summerstrand Cheshire Home, opened its doors and in 1993 the Cleary Estate Home opened in the Northern area of Port Elizabeth.

Both Homes are thriving today in spite of the many obstacles that challenge the dedicated staff.  Jointly these Cheshire Homes accommodate some 93 profoundly disabled adults from the surrounding community.

In the early  nineties the desperate needs of  disabled children living in impoverished homes were highlighted and Cheshire EP responded by opening a Day Care Centre, called Khaya Cheshire – a small facility which today serves 23 children from the Quebera Township.

During 2007, Miracle Kids opened its doors at the Cleary Estate Cheshire Home, to provide daily care for 28 children living with severe disabilities.

Eastern Province Branch is proud to have under its wings the above four projects.  We raise funds services and we mentor management and staff to ensure that services standards are the best that we can provide.

Dedicated volunteers work with commitment to the Cheshire work being done in the eastern Province.
